Next year Queensland turns 150 and Newstead House are having a garden party to celebrate and we (as a guild) are attending. Exciting. But through that ...
The Premiers Department are writing up some official thing (can't remember what it is exactly) for it and they needed some photos and asked for a couple of us in period costume to be in the photos. DOUBLE EXCITING ....
SOOOO after some correspondence, the bloke wanted us in crinolines (duh - birth of QLD in 1859) and as you know all I had was my ball gown - SOOOO inappropriate. So in 3 days I made a blouse to go with my ball skirt. I thought I would have to do an all nighter but I was all done by 12:30am. I was going to make a corset cover however (due to time) decided to wear my plain chemise as a chemise and the lacy one as a corset cover. And it looked great.
Luckily Cherie's other half came along as well and took some photos with our cameras.
.

EDIT
Got to wear my new lace gloves - yay
and it only took 10 minutes to fix my skirt.
I will have to make a proper waist one day.

It sounds like such a fun event!
Not always - I am a procrastinator most times.
Can't wait until next year, should be a blast.
Speedy when pressed to, lol.
Well done on the blouse. That's a super-fast effort. I've been putting myself to good use too and have done a large amount on my Regency bodice (the real mccoy) - handsewing because it's too fiddly to machine it.
And let me know if you come across any other communities that you think I'd be into! (please!)
I remember thinking of hand sewing my regency - not going to happen now, he he. Glad you are making progress. Don't forget that we have our meeting on Tuesday (bring your handsewing cause I will).
It's at Trinny's place this time yes?
The shape of your skirt looks different compared to the ballgown version?
It certainly does in that shot, it was the same undergarments as at the ball so don't know why it looks different.
and daylight always has a habit of making things look different. Maybe your petticoat was froofier? We kept doing the cupcake dance to froof outselves up again... And then Donna fell over.. -snicker-
Nice Recovery! :P
man oh man I wish I hadn't forgotten my parasol..-pout-
I should get around to looking through my photos and posting about my bargains (no it wasn't $2/mt silk, but it still was pretty good) that I got today from Spotlight, but I think I'll do that tomorrow.. I'm going to go sleep now!
I hate it when I forget something, maybe I should have spoken to you before going to colaborate what we were thinking of taking.
Can't wait to see not only your photos but the photographers as well.
Sounds like you had a successful trip to Spotlight, can't wait to hear what you got.
The one of you sitting makes you both look so relaxed and natural - who would have thought you had been sewing to a deadline!!!
